The British painter Peter Phillips is regarded as a pioneer of the British Pop Art movement. His work ranges from painting to multi-dimension compositions and from collage to sculpture. He studied from 1959 to 1962 at the Royal College in London with David Hockney, Allen Jones and R.B. Kitaj, amongst others. Modern life is reflected in his work through the use of bright colours. Print media, cinema, adverts and supermarket culture serve as inspiration. In the mid 1960s a scholarship allowed him to go to New York, where he exhibited with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichenstein, as well as other Pop artists. Since this time his work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and is represented in institutions such as the Tate Modern or the Art Institute of Chicago.
